Date 1885 - 1910
Extent 1 bundle
Description Letters mainly from Charles William Cayzer to his parents, from school at Rugby 1885-1887, from the Glasgow office 1888, from Christ Church, Oxford when he sought permission to marry Annie Mabel "Minnie" White while still at university 1893-1894, married life in Saffron Walden 1895-1897, and then from the period 1904-1910, covering the move from Saffron Walden to Brighton, Charles's literary career, attempts by his father to persuade him to rejoin the company, and general family life. Charles periodically turned down his father's offer to fund a political campaign if he wished to go into politics. Aside from mentions in letters from Rugby where the brothers attended at the same time for a year or so, Charles comments on Jack's affairs briefly in 1894, and again after Jack's death in 1908. The bundle includes the wedding invitation and programme for Charles' wedding to Minnie White in 1893, letters from Minnie Cayzer to her father-in-law, one letter from Winifred Cayzer, Charles and Minnie's eldest child, to her grandfather, and two issues of "The Meteor", Rugby's newsletter for pupils and old boys.
