Rescuing the occasional “man overboard” at sea is not an everyday occurrence, but sailors take the matter in their stride. On one particular day in 1962, what should have been a straightforward operation had two problems – the man overboard did not wish to be rescued, and the precise area into which he had jumped turned out to be shark-infested waters.
